On the Opto-Mechanical team, our goal is to explore, innovate, and design novel interfaces and hardware subsystems for state-of-the-art virtual, augmented, and mixed reality experiences. We are looking for a skilled and motivated Mechanical Engineer to join our team, whose mission will be to design, build, and test future consumer VR and AR experiences. You will develop brand new mechanical structures, mechanisms, and solutions for new hardware. You will become part of a team chartered with the exploration of new concepts through analytical modeling and fast iterative prototyping. A wide range of approaches will be explored combining electrical, mechanical, firmware, and software techniques. We want people who work well in teams, can brainstorm big ideas, work in new technology areas, are able to drive a concept into a prototype, and can envision how a prototype could transition into a high-volume consumer product. You'll work with a diverse and highly interdisciplinary team of researchers and engineers and will have access to cutting edge technology, resources, and testing facilities.
Mechanical Engineer - Research Responsibilities
  • Drive Mechanical Engineering activities in cross-functional team environment.
  • Apply rigorous engineering to model, build, test, and refine prototypes.
  • Participate on a research team providing advice, guidance and insight to your peers in your areas of expertise.
  • Transform ambiguous requests and vendor reference designs into working custom solutions.
  • Incubate new technologies into research prototypes.
Minimum Qualifications
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience working on complex ME designs in collaborative, cross functional environments.
  • Experience in 3D design modeling (SolidWorks or NX) and physical prototyping.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with mass production of systems requiring variety of manufacturing processes: soft goods, active optical alignment, multishot/insert molding, machining.
  • Experience with one or more of the following: precision design and measurement (GD&T, CMM, OMM ), elastomeric materials and their manufacturing limitations, or FEA.
  • Familiarity with VR/AR systems or wearable technologies.
  • Experience designing haptics devices, mechanisms and actuators into novel customer experiences.
  • Strong creative problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with component/system level modeling and optimization DOE and DFSS.
  • 3+ years of experience working on high-volume consumer products.

$139,000/year to $200,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits

Individual compensation is determined by skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Compensation details listed in this posting reflect the base hourly rate, monthly rate, or annual salary only, and do not include bonus, equity or sales incentives, if applicable.
