Meta Reality Labs is seeking interns to join our team and help us push the boundaries of wearable technology. As an intern, you will have the opportunity to work alongside a talented group of researchers and engineers who are dedicated to creating the next generation of Augmented Reality glasses. Our goal is to create glasses that are not only stylish and functional, but also comfortable to wear for extended periods of time. To achieve this, we need to understand the factors that impact stability and comfort, and develop innovative solutions to address these challenges. As an intern on our team, you will be responsible for conducting research into glasses architectures and their impact on stability and comfort for the customer. This may involve designing and conducting experiments, analyzing data, and collaborating with other members of the team to develop new ideas and solutions. We are looking for individuals who are passionate about wearable technology and have a strong background in a relevant field such as mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, aerospace engineering or other relevant fields are encouraged to apply. Experience with Augmented Reality or AI technology is a plus, but not required. Our internships are twelve (12) to twenty four (24) weeks long, and we have various start dates throughout the year.
Research Scientist Intern, AR Hardware - Wearability (PhD) Responsibilities
  • Planning and executing applied research: You will work with our team to design and conduct experiments, analyze data, and develop new ideas, prototypes and solutions to improve the comfort and stability of Augmented Reality glasses.
  • Collaborating with Engineering, Quantified Wearability, and User Experience Research teams: You will work closely with other members of the team to translate fundamental mechanics of glasses design into new technology and user experiences. This may involve developing prototypes, conducting user testing, and analyzing feedback to inform future designs.
  • Using quantitative research methods: You will use statistical analysis and other quantitative methods to define, iterate upon, and advance key areas of our research agenda. This may involve analyzing data from user testing, sensor data, or other sources to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining, an advanced degree in systems, mechanical engineering, biophysics, physics, biomedical engineering, aerospace engineering, human factors, data science or related fields.
  • Research-oriented implementation skills, including experience with Design of Experiments
  • Experience in 3D CAD tools (ex. NX, Solidworks)
  • Experience with Statistical Analysis and necessary tools (ex. Matlab)
  • Experience with designing and building prototypes for test evaluations
  • Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience designing experiments and creating new datasets
  • Product design experience specifically in wearable technology
  • Familiarity with finite element analysis: This may involve generating and running finite element on prototype designs
  • Familiarity with human physiology and anthropometry
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and being able to communicate your ideas effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Intent to return to degree-program after the completion of the internship/co-op.
