Lead Counsel, Privacy

Meta is seeking a highly motivated privacy attorney to join a growing team of go-to legal counsel for teams building privacy products. We drive the development and execution of scalable solutions for all of Meta to comply with new and evolving privacy obligations across the globe. This requires strategic thinking, strong business acumen, and excellent legal judgment. You will need a deep understanding of global privacy laws and a passion for new technology. We are looking for someone who is able to both work independently and collaborate across functions, including Meta’s privacy, product, legal and policy teams.
Lead Counsel, Privacy Responsibilities
  • Drive high-impact privacy initiatives to meet privacy requirements and best practices, by advising product, business and legal stakeholders across Meta
  • Facilitate a consistent and sustainable approach to complex and novel privacy issues across the company by developing strategies and driving leadership alignment
  • Maintain subject matter expertise in multiple areas of privacy and evaluate impact of relevant requirements (US state and federal privacy laws and regulations, GDPR and other global privacy laws), regulatory guidance, and enforcement actions
Minimum Qualifications
  • J.D. degree (or foreign equivalent)
  • Active membership in at least one US state bar and eligibility to obtain registered in-house counsel status (if required by the State Bar in the assigned work location)
  • 5+ years of legal experience as a practicing attorney, including at a law firm and/or in-house or government experience
  • Demonstrate business judgment and client counseling skills
  • Effective communication skills
  • Experience advising on privacy legal risks and mitigations
  • Experience with global privacy laws, regulations, and industry guidelines, especially including those relevant for social media, internet and technology companies
  • Experience working on multiple projects at once in a fast-paced environment
  • Proven problem-solving, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience making decisions in the face of ambiguity and evolving priorities
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated business judgment, willingness to provide practical solutions, and client counseling experience
  • Demonstrated experience in understanding technology and enthusiastic about innovations
  • Experience advancing projects in a multi-stakeholder environment
  • Experience demonstrating business judgment and practical counseling skills In-house experience with applicable product counseling, compliance, litigation, or regulatory teams
  • Experience prioritizing work and providing advice under deadlines
  • Experience advising on global access & portability rights
  • Experience with understanding innovative technology

$167,000/year to $233,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
