Meta is seeking an experienced and highly motivated attorney to join the APAC Legal team as Lead Counsel, Southeast Asia. In this role, you will lead our Indonesia country practice and provide legal support for other Southeast Asian countries. You will work closely with colleagues across the global legal team, as well as local policy, communications, and sales/business teams, to manage legal and regulatory risk. This role demands collaborative leadership, sound judgment, and excellent communication skills to drive decision-making in a dynamic legal landscape, leveraging your deep understanding of Indonesia and Southeast Asia's legal and political complexities. You will have the opportunity to support our platforms, products, and services and work on novel legal and regulatory issues at the forefront of technology in an exciting, fast-paced environment. This is a full-time position based in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Lead Counsel, Southeast Asia Responsibilities
  • Work collaboratively across the global legal team, as well as local policy, communications, operations, finance, sales, and marketing teams, to advise on legal matters in Indonesia and other Southeast Asian countries, effectively balancing domestic and global perspectives.
  • Engage with Governments to respond to and develop regulations that could affect Meta in-country, develop and implement legal risk mitigation and compliance strategies, and participate in crisis management.
  • Help guide and drive legal decision-making and provide advisory and project management responsibility on a broad range of legal subjects including corporate structuring, regulatory issues, intermediary liability, content legal issues, privacy, data-protection, e-commerce, cybersecurity, and general legal risk management advice.
  • Participate in other projects (both Asia and global based) as directed.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Native level fluency (reading/writing/speaking) in English and Bahasa Indonesia.
  • Qualified as an advokat or foreign legal consultant (Konsultan Hukum Asing) in Indonesia
  • Strong knowledge of Indonesian regulations and developments in Indonesian law affecting tech companies. Experience engaging with regulators is a plus
  • At least 8 years post-qualification experience. Prior experience working for a global MNC in Indonesia would be advantageous.
  • Ability to independently, quickly and accurately assess legal, practical and business risk
  • Demonstrated experience advising clients in the tech and digital media sector on a wide variety of subject matter, including internet and cybersecurity laws, user-generated content, corporate and regulatory issues.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, ability to work well with cross-functional teams
  • Track record of navigating stakeholders through highly ambiguous situations
  • Strong problem solving and organizational skills and the ability to manage several simultaneous projects under deadline pressure
  • Demonstrate sound judgment and provide practical solutions
  • Open to travel as and when required
