Learn what it's like to work as a Client Solutions Manager (CSM) at Facebook through the perspective of Andrea A., Client Solutions Manager in Mexico City for the Media, Entertainment, Retail and Finance Team.
What do you do at Facebook?
I am a Client Solutions Manager in Facebook's Mexico City office. A CSM partners with the sales team to develop key relationships, drive revenue and boost results through analysis, negotiation and optimization of complex opportunities. We drive results by working with specific types of clients, and in my case I handle Media, Entertainment, Retail and Finance verticals.
What did you do prior to joining Facebook and how did you end up joining us?
Prior to my time at Facebook, I was finalizing a Double Master's degree in Global Media and Communications in London and Los Angeles, studying the processes of globalization in relation to organization, production, consumption and representation in media and communication networks. Prior to grad school, I worked at different agencies in New York City doing media planning and brand strategy focusing on a variety of accounts that ranged from consumer packaged goods to tourism to entertainment.
After finishing the dual masters program, I decided I wanted to work for a technology company given the endless amount of innovation that happens within the digital spectrum. Facebook was the perfect fit, it allowed me to apply the skills I had acquired from my previous experience and it offered me the tools to create projects that have an influence on people´s lives and on businesses.
What is unique or motivating about the work you do at Facebook?
The company culture at Facebook is motivating in itself. Facebook's mission is to give people the power to share and make the world more open and connected. The mission is reflected in what I do on a day to day basis. I'm encouraged to balance my strengths to have the most impact, resulting in finding solutions for the business needs of my clients. People use Facebook to stay connected with their friends and family, discover content and share what really matters to them. It's my job to fuel the platform and facilitate a more open and connected world through providing relevant content to the appropriate audience. Facebook is unique; while it is a technology company, we lead our business with people not code. We start by imagining impactful solutions in which we can improve people's lives and then analyzing what technology we need to fulfill that goal.
Can you tell us about a project you've worked on that has really challenged you?
I am constantly challenged here at Facebook, but that is part of the fun. At Facebook we believe that “Nothing at Facebook is somebody else's problem” — it's yours. I think this speaks to the challenge I face every day in which I'm tasked with finding creative, innovative and realistic solutions for my clients, even if it has never been done before. There really isn't one specific project that comes to mind given that every task we take on is a challenge in itself. There's always something more I could be doing for my clients' business and it's my job to make it happen.
What has been the highlight of your career at Facebook so far?
Interacting with people from all over the world on various projects. Facebook aims at making the world a more open and connected place and that sticks true to our Company as well. We're encouraged to reach out to our different teams around the world and to learn what other regions are doing in comparison to our own market. This facilitates both a learning experience and a cultural exchange that has not only complimented, but enhanced my knowledge in the field.
Which Facebook value (Move Fast, Focus on Impact, Build Social Value, Be Open, Be Bold) resonates most with your team?
Focus on Impact is the main driver for our team. It is very easy to get sidetracked with various different projects, this can prove to be very unproductive if you try to take on too much at one time. The solution is to focus on one thing at a time, and understand what is the most efficient and realistic way of making an impact in your specific job role.
What's the top app that you like to use on your phone?
If we were going to build a new conference room and you get to name it, what would the name be?
