Meta’s Global Energy Team is seeking a highly experienced and self-motivated energy professional to lead external engagement on clean energy standards and their real-world emissions impacts. The Energy Manager (Clean Energy Standards) will focus on refining a Scope 2 GHG accounting framework for Meta’s implementation that more accurately reflects the true emissions impact of clean energy projects and drives meaningful carbon reductions. This role will collaborate with Meta’s Energy & Net Zero teams to advance our clean energy and net zero strategy by addressing key standards and external partnerships.
Energy Manager, Clean Energy Standards Responsibilities
  • Assess Scope 2 GHG Standards: Analyze existing and proposed Scope 2 GHG accounting and voluntary corporate claim standards to assess impacts to Meta’s renewable energy and Scope 2 emissions reduction goals.
  • Model Impact: Develop models to measure the effect of standards implementation on Meta’s global portfolio and reporting.
  • External Engagement: Build strong relationships with external academics, standard setters, data providers, and industry leaders to drive more effective clean energy and Scope 2 GHG accounting discussions.
  • Stakeholder Coordination: Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to align cross-functional understanding of benefits and drawbacks of proposed options.
  • Internal Advocacy: Educate internal teams on technical Scope 2 GHG accounting proposals and ensure smooth implementation of evolving standards.
  • Promote Transparency: Advocate for more transparent and granular data from electricity suppliers, market operators, and utilities regarding carbon intensity of power.
  • Global Outreach: Partner with international NGOs to highlight the need for greater emissions transparency outside the U.S.
  • Standards Development: Coordinate Meta’s external efforts to refine and improve clean energy accounting protocols and standards.
  • Representation: Serve as Meta’s representative externally on clean energy standards partnerships and engagements.
  • Cross-Team Collaboration: Align philosophies and messaging on Scope 2 and Scope 3 electricity-related efforts in partnership with the Net Zero team.
  • Evolve Strategy: Support Meta’s clean energy strategy for domestic and international markets in line with standards developments.
  • Travel: Will travel domestically and internationally as needed (up to 20% at times).
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, sustainability, corporate responsibility, or technically related field
  • 12+ years of experience in fields related to clean energy, environmental standards, carbon markets and/or sustainability
  • Expertise in clean energy markets, project-based accounting, GHG accounting and voluntary corporate climate claims
  • Experience playing coordinating/leadership role in building sustainability partnerships and coalitions with NGOs and corporations
  • Proven track record of influencing, creating and driving strategic impact, engagement and communication
  • Flexible, entrepreneurial spirit with experience influencing across an organization with indirect authority
  • Experience managing multiple projects and coordinating with internal interdisciplinary teams as well as external stakeholders
  • A self starter, with proven experience to diplomatically resolve issues through understanding conflicting inputs, achieving alignment, and proposing go-forward solutions
  • Proven communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in related field
  • Experience working with GhG standard and guidance development
  • Strong familiarity with existing and emerging corporate climate disclosure regulations
  • Experience setting and reporting on corporate GHG reduction targets and commitments (e.g. Net zero, SBTi)

$188,000/year to $256,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits

Individual compensation is determined by skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Compensation details listed in this posting reflect the base hourly rate, monthly rate, or annual salary only, and do not include bonus, equity or sales incentives, if applicable.
