We are seeking a Manager to join our Linguistics leadership team. You will lead a team of managers and linguistic engineers in designing and developing datasets, models, and representations across languages, knowledge, and evaluation systems that drive AI multimodal assistant. This role demands leveraging management, research, and production expertise to develop the team, set clear direction, and collaborate cross-functionally to define features that meet customer needs. You will influence decisions on system architecture, apply cutting-edge techniques to analyze data representation of user behavior and human language, and spearhead efforts to enhance downstream interactions, making a significant impact in a fast-paced environment.
Linguistics Engineering Manager Responsibilities
  • Drive advancements in conversational AI systems: ASR, NLU, Dialog, LLM, TTS
  • Guide model ablation studies
  • Strategically plan and execute technical initiatives related to AI voice assistants programs
  • Provide technical and scientific guidance to team members and partners
  • Execute deployments promptly, derive insights from iterations, and continually refine processes
  • Mentor and nurture the growth of linguists and managers to amplify their contributions
  • Foster a diverse and inclusive environment
  • Ensure projects progress on schedule
  • Collaborate seamlessly with cross-functional teams
Minimum Qualifications
  • 12+ years of experience as a computational linguist/data scientist/software engineer, with expertise in conversational AI, conducting scaled experiments and evaluations tied to product/user experience improvements
  • 4+ years of relevant industry experience managing managers or technical teams as part of a consumer-facing application
  • Proficiency in programming and data analysis with languages and platforms such as Python, SQL
  • Experience with text analysis, scripting, relational databases, NoSQL databases, or similar
  • Track record in hiring, coaching, managing technical teams, and inspiring senior staff
  • Experience in shipping and evaluating AI/ML-based products
  • Understanding of the relationship between data and machine learning models
  • Experience producing meaningful quality insights from live traffic data across multiple modalities
  • Experience collaborating with internal and external teams
  • Experience communicating and influencing cross-functional leaders and Sr. leadership
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with larger scripting projects involving the integration of language data from various sources and computing complex metrics over large datasets
  • Experience in building machine learning models or developing algorithms for business applications
  • Experience designing and conducting data experiments
  • Fluency in additional verbal languages
  • Master’s or PhD with a specialization in Computational Linguistics, AI, speech programs, natural language processing, or machine learning, or related fields

$183,000/year to $255,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
