The GenAI Safety alignment team aims to mitigate safety concerns of GenAI models (in particular Llama models) and accelerate the world's AI development. The safety alignment team focuses on safety aligning Llama models using state of the art alignment techniques, as well developed novel safety alignment techniques. We are looking for a strong leader, with passion for Generative AI and, in particular, safety of these cutting edge models. This leader will lead a team of AI engineers and scientists building safe Llama models. We are looking for a team player, who thrives in ambiguity, quickly adapting to new problems and AI metrics from helpfulness to safety; preferred candidates have experience in leading AI applied research on large scale GenAI models.
Engineering Manager, Generative AI Safety Responsibilities
  • Manage a team of AI engineers and scientist that develop and build new safety alignment methods for Generative AI models.
  • Manage engineers and scientists, and help them develop their careers, assigning them to projects tailored to their skill levels, long-term skill development, personalities, and work styles.
  • Communicate and collaborate with cross-functional hardware and software engineering teams.
  • Set clear expectations and create a positive work environment based on accountability, in collaboration with the engineering and management teams.
  • Work closely with dedicated recruiting staff to expand the team, including sourcing candidates, interviewing candidates, participating in conferences/events, and on-boarding new employees.
Minimum Qualifications
  • 2+ years of experience in managing engineering teams including hiring/termination and performance management.
  • 5+ years of work experience building and shipping AI models and products
  • 5+ years experience in Python or comparable language (i.e., JavaScript).
  • Proven track record of building and supporting cross-functional teams.
  • Experience supporting, coaching, mentoring, and developing engineers and/or research scientists
  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively in cross-functional teams.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in managing managers.
  • Experience in generative AI post training
  • Experience in safety alignment techniques (SFT, RLHF, DPO)

$177,000/year to $251,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits

Individual compensation is determined by skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
