Meta Reality Labs Research (RLR), Redmond, is looking for exceptional interns to help create the next generation of virtual and augmented reality. Our research focuses on true solutions to complex eye tracking problems, delivering novel technologies and algorithms fundamental to future VR and AR systems. You’ll have the unique opportunity to work with industry-leading researchers and engineers who are defining the future of VR. The ideal candidate is pursuing a PhD with a strong background in eye tracking and data analysis. In particular, we seek candidates with expertise in the analysis and modeling of eye tracking to understand, predict, and assess human visual attention and perception. We welcome candidates who strive for a deep understanding of complex systems, and a strong desire to push beyond state-of-the-art. We also welcome students with a passion for working in a strongly collaborative team that spans research across human perception, algorithms, hardware design and systems prototyping. Our team at Reality Labs Research offers sixteen (16) to twenty-four (24) week long internships and we have various start dates throughout the year.
Research Scientist Intern – Eye Tracking Applications Research (PhD) Responsibilities
  • Advance the state-of-the-art for assessing human perception and performance for graphics rendering using eye tracking and psychophysics.
  • Analyze data to advance eye movement prediction and perceptual control loops in real-world or virtual tasks and environments.
  • Collaborate with researchers and engineers across diverse disciplines.
  • Present regularly to large cross-functional teams and communicate progress.
  • Engage the wider academic community to pursue research in this direction through publications and/or workshop/challenge/tutorial organization top-tier conferences.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining, a PhD degree in the field of Computer Science, Machine Learning, Computational Neuroscience, Experimental Psychology or a related STEM field
  • 3+ years of experience, including undergraduate and graduate research, working in eye tracking, psychophysics, computational modeling, or related areas.
  • High levels of creativity and quick problem solving capabilities
  • Interpersonal skills: cross-group and cross-culture collaboration
  • Experience with experimental design (using software such as Unity, Matlab, or similar) and data analysis using Python, Matlab, R, and/or similar relevant approaches
  • Must obtain work authorization in country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated research science or software engineer experience via an internship, work experience, coding competitions, or widely used contributions in open source repositories (e.g. Github)
  • Intent to return to degree-program after the completion of the internship
  • Proven track record of achieving results as demonstrated in accepted papers at top computer vision, machine learning, neuroscience, psychology, or HCI related conferences (such as CVPR, IEEEVR, NeurIPS, CHI, etc.) or journals.

$7,800/month to $11,293/month + benefits

Individual compensation is determined by skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Compensation details listed in this posting reflect the base hourly rate, monthly rate, or annual salary only, and do not include bonus, equity or sales incentives, if applicable.
