As an Optical Material Engineer at Meta Reality Labs (RL), you will be responsible for the designing, and productization of innovative materials that are core to delivering transformative experiences for next generation Meta’s AR products. The roles focuses on building new technology to 3D-print ophthalmic lenses and optical elements. You will be responsible for designing and guiding the chemistry and material team in the development of printable materials. We are looking for an individual that thrives in thinking outside the box, is able to drive and lead developing and pushing the state-of-the-art of optical materials and also works well in teams comprising a wide range of disciplines.
Optical Materials Engineer Responsibilities
  • Work with a multidisciplinary team in developing innovative materials.
  • Independently plan and conduct simulations and work with experimentalists to help interpret spectroscopic results and guide the design of new organic materials.
  • Directly responsible for design, and development of the state-of-the-art material for optical materials in collaboration with the printing team.
  • Lead efforts to characterize existing materials and define potential solution paths to adjust the performance of the material.
  • Directly responsible for the development, optimization, productization and test of the functionality and reliability of the material
  • Guide teams on material properties, material compatibility, and characterization.
  • Remove material and integration barriers from the path to realization.
Minimum Qualifications
  • BS in material engineering, organic chemistry, chemistry, material science or related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in at least one of the following areas: Thermo-mechanical properties of polymeric materials, Photo or thermal curing of organic resins, Formulation of inks for inkjet, Chemistry of surfaces and interfaces.
  • Experience functioning well in a fast-paced environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs.
  • Experience working independently and to participate creatively in cross-functional collaborations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • PhD in material engineering, organic chemistry, chemistry, material science or related field.
  • 5+ years experience in several of these areas: Thermo-mechanical properties of polymeric materials, Photo- or thermal curing of organic resins, Formulation of inks for inkjet, Chemistry of surfaces and interfaces.

$139,000/year to $200,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits

Individual compensation is determined by skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Compensation details listed in this posting reflect the base hourly rate, monthly rate, or annual salary only, and do not include bonus, equity or sales incentives, if applicable.
