Meta seeks an Associate General Counsel for the EMEA civil litigation team managing content and product-related civil litigation with a focus on Italy and other central and southern European jurisdictions. As the successful candidate, you will be joining the EMEA-wide disputes team to work on litigation issues in a vibrant environment. You will be charged with running a large docket of cases and demonstrating experience running litigation across multiple jurisdictions is a necessity. As part of the role, you will partner closely with other legal teams and internal stakeholders from across the business, helping to set strategy across key areas. Associate General Counsel, EMEA Disputes Responsibilities
  • Formulate and execute on complex litigation strategy in relation to matters pending before national and international courts across EMEA, with a broad remit across content and product litigation.
  • Partner and coordinate with key internal stakeholders such as other legal teams, public policy and communications colleagues, business and product teams.
  • Manage Outside Counsel relationships across a busy docket including with a material oversight on costs.
  • Provide internal legal advice across many subject areas, with a particular focus on assessing litigation risk when informing product development
  • Assess legal, practical and business risks quickly and accurately and present this advice to legal and non-legal leadership.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Qualified lawyer with 8+ years PQE in a law firm or in-house.
  • A civil law litigation experience in Italy is a must.
  • Litigation experience, including experience dealing with matters before higher and/or appellate courts. If you are in private practice, you should work in a relevant litigation department. If you are an in-house lawyer you should work on litigation as a core part of your role.
  • Demonstrated experience to work in a collaborative environment and make sound judgments under tight deadlines with thoroughness and accuracy.
  • Candidates should demonstrate experience in adapting to changing priorities and projects and willing to work on different jurisdictions.
  • Familiarity with Internet laws and regulation, including in emerging areas and content-related legislation and a proven record of advising on these in litigation.
  • Experience in explaining complex technologies in concise and accessible ways to complainants and courts of all levels.
  • The ability to collaborate closely with others and show thoughtful and inclusive collaboration is a must.
  • Experience with legal judgment, a track record managing a significant docket of complex litigation in more than one jurisdiction, a strong work ethic and proven leadership skills.
  • Experience building systems and processes to increase efficiencies in workflows and providing executive and board-level updates and advice.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience working with internet or technology companies.
  • Additional language skills preferred but not essential.
