Research Scientist Intern, Computational Imaging (PhD)

Come invent the future by joining the Display Systems Research (DSR) group at Meta Reality Labs Research. Our work spans new VR headset concepts, novel types of computational displays and optical systems, and AI-driven graphics. Partner with research scientists, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, and software engineers to build cutting-edge prototypes and create the AR/VR technology that will bring people together across the globe. We welcome PhD students in computer science, optics, electrical engineering, applied physics or similar, with experience in joint hardware-software design of imaging systems. We are particularly looking for experience with computational displays and diffractive imaging. Our internships are 16 to 24 weeks long and we have various start dates throughout the year.
Research Scientist Intern, Computational Imaging (PhD) Responsibilities
  • Investigate novel computational imaging systems that achieve high performance through a combination of algorithms and optics.
  • Collaborate with scientists and engineers from a variety of technical backgrounds through all stages of project development.
  • Publish research results in top-tier journals and at leading international conferences.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Currently has or is in the process of obtaining a PhD in the field of Computer Science, Optics, Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, or a related field.
  • Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.
  • Experience with geometric optics, physical optics, and diffractive optics, including modeling and simulation.
  • Experience with optimization or machine learning algorithms.
  • Experience with scientific programming languages such as MATLAB or Python and experience with deep learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Past experience with cross-group and cross-culture collaboration.
  • Deep learning experience in computational photography, neural rendering, 3D reconstruction, computational imaging, or related topics.
  • Experimental hardware experience in computational photography, computational imaging, or related topics.
  • Proven track record of achieving significant results as demonstrated by first-authored publications in journals or at conferences, etc.
  • Intent to return to degree-program after the completion of the internship.

$7,800/month to $11,293/month + benefits

Individual compensation is determined by skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Compensation details listed in this posting reflect the base hourly rate, monthly rate, or annual salary only, and do not include bonus, equity or sales incentives, if applicable.
